2012 Reserve Dry-Farmed Zinfandel, Fair Play, Estate Paso Vista Vineyard (Oakstone): The Paso Vista Vineyard, planted in 2001, has five acres of the "Higgins" clone Zinfandel, revered locally for its depth and complexity of flavor. This wine is the rich and robust result of grapes from dry-farmed vines in the first year of the drought.

2012 Petit Verdot, Fair Play, Estate Paso Vista Vineyard (Obscurity): When Petit Verdot ripens fully (as this did in 2012), the grapes change from a "spice" blending element to a full-featured stand-alone varietal wine. Opulent aromas combine with full body and a classic Bordeaux flavor profile to make this wine a great complement to flavorful foods.
Awards: Silver Medal, California State Fair.

Phoenix Rising Red, Lot #5, Sierra Foothills, (Oakstone): The latest in our seriously good but no-so-serious red blends, this version combines Zinfandel, Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, and Tempranillo. It's vibrant, complex, and delicious.
Awards: Not yet entered in competitions (probably never will be).

2012 O'Blivion's Chateau Margot, Sierra Foothills, (Obscurity): A reprise of the "Redheaded Granddaughter" to celebrate the newest addition to the Smith family, granddaughter Margot Joan. This robust, full-bodied wine is a blend of 40% Tempranillo, 20% Petit Verdot, 20% Alicante Bouschet, and 20% Tannat, to produce a delightfully complex combination of aromas and flavors.

2012 Meritage, Fair Play, Estate De Cascabel Vineyard (Oakstone): A blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Franc, all from our flagship vineyard planted in 1981. Rich aromas of red fruits and vibrant, complex flavors mark this blend of traditional Bordeaux varieties with body, fruit, and structure to complement any red wine fare.
Awards: Gold Medal and Best Meritage of the Sierra Foothills, California State Fair; Silver Medal, El Dorado County Fair; Silver medal, Amador County Fair.

2012 Alicante Bouschet, Fair Play, Estate Serendipity Hill Vineyard (Obscurity): Another offering that used to be obscure, but which has found a place in the hearts of wine lovers everywhere. Deep purple color, robust dark fruit flavors, but with surprisingly gentle tannins--this wine is a friend to all red meat dishes.
Awards: 4-Star Gold Medal, Orange County Fair; Silver Medal, El Droado County Fair.
